Welcome to The Simple Catholic website! I’m Matthew and here’s a bit about myself:

I’m a left-handed cradle Catholic who enjoys reading everything Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and Chesterton. I’m also an avid comic book reader and wishes I had the Speed Force. My favorite saints include Athanasius, Catherine of Siena, Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross.

This blog started in 2015 out of the tragedy of losing my unborn baby to a miscarriage. Writing became a primary means of pouring my heart out to God. Suffering plants the seeds for joy to be reaped over time and watered with the grace of the Holy Spirit. God works everything for the good (Romans 8:28). He sent us a rainbow baby— a healer— to transform my pain from purposeless into hopeful anticipation. My story of healing continues to this day.
