Editor’s Note: Matthew Chicoine interviewed the Association of Friends of Saint Carlo Acutis USA, via email in the summer of 2026. Some of the questions/answers may have been rearranged, edited, and paraphrased to provide the best reader experience without losing any integrity of the answers given.
For readers who may only know Saint Carlo Acutis as “the internet saint,” who was Carlo at the heart of his spirituality and daily life?
Saint Carlo Acutis was far more than the “internet saint.” At the heart of his life was a profound love for Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. He attended Holy Mass frequently, spent time in Eucharistic Adoration, prayed the Rosary daily, and lived a life of charity by serving others with humility and joy.
Although he enjoyed computers, sports, and ordinary teenage activities, Carlo never allowed technology to become the center of his life. Instead, he used it as a tool to evangelize, always pointing people to Christ. His famous words, “The Eucharist is my highway to Heaven,” perfectly summarize his spirituality. Carlo reminds us that holiness is possible in everyday life when we place Jesus at the center of everything we do.
What inspired the founding of the Association of Friends of Saint Carlo Acutis USA, and what is the mission of your organization today?
The Association of Friends of Saint Carlo Acutis USA was inspired by Saint Carlo’s extraordinary love for the Holy Eucharist and his example of using technology to share the Gospel. We recognized the need for a Catholic community that continues his legacy by bringing people together in faith, prayer, and evangelization through modern digital platforms.
Today, as a California Nonprofit Religious Corporation, our mission is to virtually evangelize by proclaiming the Gospel, promoting devotion to Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist, and inspiring people of all ages through the life and witness of Saint Carlo Acutis. Through prayer initiatives, digital outreach, faith formation, and our weekly gathering, The Highway, we seek to unite Catholics across the United States and around the world in living the Gospel and growing in holiness.
Carlo had a deep love for the Eucharist and called it his “highway to heaven.” Why do you think his Eucharistic devotion resonates so strongly with young people and families today?
Saint Carlo Acutis’ Eucharistic devotion resonates so strongly because he showed that holiness is possible in ordinary life. He was a typical teenager who loved computers, sports, and friends, yet he placed Jesus in the Holy Eucharist at the center of everything he did.
His famous words, “The Eucharist is my highway to Heaven,” remind young people and families that true happiness is found not in worldly success, but in a personal relationship with Christ. Carlo’s life encourages families to make the Holy Mass, prayer, and acts of charity part of their daily lives, while inspiring young people to use technology responsibly as a tool for evangelization rather than distraction.
His witness proves that sainthood is not reserved for a few—it is a calling for everyone, regardless of age.
In a world filled with distractions and constant digital noise, what can Catholics learn from the way Carlo used technology and social media with intentionality and holiness?
Saint Carlo Acutis teaches us that technology is a gift when it leads us to Christ, not away from Him. He did not use the internet for fame or self-promotion; instead, he used his computer skills to evangelize and share the beauty of the Catholic faith, especially the Eucharist.
In today’s world of constant digital noise, Carlo reminds Catholics to use technology with purpose, truth, and charity. Before posting or sharing anything, we should ask: Does this bring others closer to Christ? If technology becomes a means of spreading hope, truth, and love, it becomes a powerful instrument of evangelization.
Carlo’s example encourages us not to disconnect from the digital world, but to transform it—making Christ present wherever people gather, both in person and online.
You reached out to many Catholics through the distribution of relic prayer cards and devotionals. Have there been any testimonies or stories that especially moved you through this ministry?
Yes, we have been deeply touched by many testimonies from people who have received our relic prayer cards and devotional materials. While we are always careful to remember that all graces come from God through the intercession of the saints, we have heard from individuals and families who have experienced renewed faith, answered prayers, healing, conversions, and a deeper love for the Holy Eucharist after asking for Saint Carlo Acutis’ intercession.
What moves us most are not only extraordinary stories, but the simple ones—a young person returning to the Sacraments, a family praying together again, someone discovering Eucharistic Adoration for the first time, or a person finding hope during a difficult moment. These quiet transformations remind us that God continues to work in people’s hearts.
Every testimony encourages us to continue this mission with humility and gratitude. Our desire has never been to draw attention to ourselves, but to help lead souls to Jesus Christ through the example and intercession of Saint Carlo Acutis, whose life continues to inspire people throughout the world.
How do you hope devotion to Saint Carlo Acutis can help renew faith in the Eucharist and inspire a deeper sacramental life within the Church?
We hope that devotion to Saint Carlo Acutis will lead people beyond admiration for his life and into a deeper encounter with Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. Carlo always pointed others to Christ, reminding us that the Eucharist is not merely a symbol but the true Presence of Jesus and the source and summit of the Christian life.
His witness encourages Catholics to return to Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and a daily life of prayer and charity. By following his example, individuals and families can rediscover the beauty of the sacraments and grow in a more personal relationship with Christ.
Ultimately, our hope is that Saint Carlo Acutis will inspire a Eucharistic renewal within the Church, helping people of every age embrace his simple yet powerful conviction: “The Eucharist is my highway to Heaven.”
For someone who wants to grow closer to Christ through the example of Saint Carlo Acutis, where would you encourage them to begin?
I would encourage them to begin where Saint Carlo Acutis began—with Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. Attend Holy Mass faithfully, spend time in Eucharistic Adoration, pray daily, and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly. Carlo often reminded us that “The Eucharist is my highway to Heaven,” because he believed that a personal encounter with Christ in the Eucharist transforms our lives.
At the same time, imitate Carlo’s simple virtues: love your family, serve those in need, be kind to others, and use technology as a tool to share goodness and the Gospel. Holiness is not about doing extraordinary things—it is about doing ordinary things with extraordinary love for God.
